Centre de Biologie pour la Gestion des Populations (Biology Center for Population Management) (CBGP), France
Website
Description
CBGP composed of >80 permanent people carry out research in the fields of systematics, genetics and ecology relevant to the management of populations and communities of organisms for the purposes of agriculture, public health and biodiversity. It aims at characterizing the diversity of these organisms, to understand structure and factors which modify them, to predict their evolution in a context of global changes. As such, it is recognized for its expertise in systematics, genetics and ecology of groups of interest (in agronomy, human health or for biodiversity). This expertise is partly based on collections of specimens, tissues and DNA belonging, mainly to mites, insects and rodents (more than 1 million samples). In addition to its important collection, the CBGP has a unique dedicated SEPA platform (greenhouse, breeding and phenotyping) which aims at producing and phenotyping, under controlled conditions, a diversity of biological models (including mites, insects, parasites, micromammals). In this center, Charbonnel focuses her research on host-parasites interactions in the context of emerging zoonoses and pluriannual demographic cycles. To this end, she performs extensive field investigations with a specific focus on the dynamics of rodent-borne diseases throughout Europe.
