Description
IGFL is composed of 12 teams and 3 platforms (e.g. next generation sequencing) located in an area regrouping 8 research centres and higher education schools. IGLF hosts a wide range of researchers and fields of research (e.g., molecular biologists, embryologists, endocrinologists, bioinformaticians, evolutionary scientists, palaeontologists, genome specialists) to improve our understanding of ‘life’ and contribute to conceptual and technological revolution thanks to a multidisciplinary approach. Notably, Leulier’s group studies microbial ecology and physiology as well as animal development and physiology to decipher how commensal bacteria shape the juvenile animals’ response to their nutritional environment and how juveniles in such nutritional environment influence the ecology and physiology of their bacterial partners. The team has dedicated laboratory space and is working with Hughes and Gillet, heads of the sequencing platform of IGFL (PSI). PSI has considerable expertise and is undertaking deep sequencing projects of different scales with the latest next generation sequencing (NGS: Illumina, Oxford Nanopore Technologies). The research of PSI platform focuses on environmental DNA (eg metabarcoding strategies to assess biodiversity). PSI has expertise and all the dedicated facilities (i.e. 100m2 of clean rooms) to analyse difficult and ancient substrates.
